Terms of use

Effective: 25 October 2026

These terms govern the use of Popcorn (also “Popcorn Task”) – the website www.popcorntask.com, the desktop app for Windows and the Android app. They include the terms of sale for paid plans and the information on the right of withdrawal for consumers.

Scope and provider

Popcorn is provided by JVMG GmbH, Vienna, Austria (“we”). Our address, company register number and further details are in the imprint. You can reach us at support@jvmg.at.

These terms apply to everyone who uses Popcorn – on the free plan as well as on the paid plans. They apply to consumers and to businesses. Where something applies to consumers only (as defined by the Austrian Consumer Protection Act), we say so.

Deviating terms of businesses do not apply, even if we do not expressly object to them.

Services and plans

Popcorn is a task and project manager: a panel at the edge of your screen on Windows, an Android app and pages on the web, kept in sync through a Popcorn account. There are three plans:

  • Free: tasks and inbox, up to 3 own projects and lists with up to 10 open tasks each, sharing projects with others, the game of the week with a leaderboard and the Android app.
  • Check: everything in Free without these limits, plus AI input, Google Calendar and Google Tasks, Microsoft calendars (Outlook), time blocking, areas and exporting your data.
  • Project Manager: everything in Check, plus the portfolio overview with a timeline, time tracking with CSV export and status links for clients.

What counts is the scope described on the pricing page or in the app at the time of purchase. Features marked there as “planned” (such as meeting notes and the agent) are not owed.

The Android app is labelled beta: it can be used, but may contain errors and does not yet have all features of the desktop app.

We may also grant you a plan without a purchase, voluntarily and possibly for a limited time (for example for testing or as a bonus month from the referral programme). There is no entitlement to such a grant; when it ends, your paid plan or Free applies again.

Account and registration

You need a Popcorn account for the apps. You create it by signing in with an email link, with Google or with Microsoft. An account belongs to exactly one person.

Popcorn is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old and have full legal capacity. If you use Popcorn for a business, you confirm that you may act on its behalf.

Keep access to your mailbox and to your Google or Microsoft accounts secure; we recommend two-factor sign-in. If you notice that someone is misusing your account, write to us at support@jvmg.at right away.

If your email address belongs to a company domain (not for free email addresses such as Gmail), your account is automatically added to that domain's team for the game of the week when it is created. You can leave a team at any time. A team does not give others access to your tasks or projects.

Conclusion of the contract

Free: the contract of use is concluded when you create your account.

You buy paid plans on the website (pricing page → buy) or in the desktop app (Settings → Plan). You choose the plan and billing, sign in and are taken to the payment page of our payment provider Stripe. There you see the plan, price and billing again and can correct your entries or cancel. By clicking the button to complete the purchase with an obligation to pay, you make a binding offer. The contract is concluded as soon as Stripe confirms the payment or the start of the subscription; we then activate the plan for your account.

You receive an invoice for every purchase. You can view, save and print these terms on this page at any time; we do not store a separate copy of the contract text for you. The contract languages are German and English.

Prices, payment, trial, renewal and cancellation

  • Prices: Check €4.90 per month or €39 per year; Project Manager €15 per month or €129 per year. All prices in euros including statutory VAT (currently 20%). The price shown to you before you complete the purchase applies.
  • Payment: you pay through Stripe with one of the payment methods offered at checkout. Subscriptions are billed in advance for each period (month or year). You enter your payment details directly with Stripe; we do not receive them.
  • Trial: with your first Check subscription (monthly or yearly) you try it free for 14 days – once per account. You add a payment method when you start. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, it automatically turns into the paid subscription and the first amount is charged at the end of the trial. If you cancel before then, you pay nothing. There is no trial for Project Manager.
  • Renewal: a subscription renews automatically for the chosen period (one month or one year) unless you cancel it beforehand.
  • Cancellation: you can cancel at any time with effect from the end of the current period – in the Stripe customer portal (desktop app: Settings → Plan → “Manage subscription”; on the website via the buy page) or by email to support@jvmg.at. Your plan stays active until the end of the paid period; there is no pro-rata refund for the remainder. Statutory rights such as the right of withdrawal (section 7) remain unaffected.
  • Changing plans: you switch between plans and billing periods in the customer portal. Before you confirm, it shows what will be charged.
  • When a subscription ends, Free applies. Your content is kept and stays readable; Free's limits only apply to new items.
  • Payment problems: if a payment fails, Stripe tries again; your plan stays active in the meantime. If the payment finally fails, the subscription ends and Free applies.
  • Discounts and referrals: discount codes and the referral programme (20% off the first subscription for invited people; for the person who invited them 20% off their next bill or, without a subscription, a bonus month of Check, at most five rewards per calendar year) apply on the conditions shown to you at the time. They do not apply to the launch offer, cannot be transferred and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Price changes: the agreed price applies to a running subscription. We announce a price increase for a running subscription at least 30 days before the next renewal; it only applies if you agree. If you do not agree, the subscription ends at the end of the current period.

Launch offer (one-time payment)

While it is available, you can buy Check for €79 or Project Manager for €199 as a one-time purchase (including VAT). The offer is limited to 500 purchases in total across both plans; once it is sold out, it disappears from the website and the app.

The launch offer is not a subscription: it does not renew and there are no further payments. You get the purchased plan for your account without a time limit for as long as we operate Popcorn. Sections 8 to 16 apply to this plan as to all plans; in particular, its scope develops along with Popcorn (section 13). New products or add-ons that we offer separately are not automatically included.

If we shut Popcorn down entirely, we will announce this by email at least three months in advance; until then you can export your data. We do not promise a minimum term for the service.

The launch offer is tied to your account and cannot be transferred. It ends when you delete your account. It also ends if the purchase is refunded in full.

A running subscription does not end automatically when you buy the launch offer. Cancel it in the customer portal afterwards so you do not pay twice.

Right of withdrawal for consumers

As a consumer, you have a right of withdrawal under the Austrian Distance and Off-Premises Contracts Act (FAGG) when you buy through the website or the app (distance selling). It does not apply to businesses. You can end the free plan at any time anyway.

Withdrawal information

Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from this contract within fourteen days without giving any reason. The withdrawal period is fourteen days from the day the contract is concluded.

To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must inform us (JVMG GmbH, Vienna, Austria – address as in the imprint – email support@jvmg.at) of your decision to withdraw from this contract by an unequivocal statement (e.g. an email or a letter sent by post). You may use the attached model withdrawal form, but this is not obligatory.

To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.

Effects of withdrawal

If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse to you all payments received from you without undue delay and in any event not later than fourteen days from the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract. We will carry out such reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.

If you requested the service to begin during the withdrawal period, you shall pay us an amount which is in proportion to what has been provided until you have communicated to us your withdrawal from this contract, in comparison with the full coverage of the contract.

– End of the withdrawal information –

Note on the trial: you pay nothing during the free trial. If you withdraw during that time, no proportional amount is due either.

After a withdrawal, the paid plan ends and Free applies; your content is kept.

Rights of use

For the duration of the contract, you receive the simple, non-exclusive, non-transferable and non-sublicensable right to use Popcorn within the scope of your plan for your own purposes – privately or for your work – and to install the apps for this on devices you use.

You may not modify, copy (except for installation as intended), distribute, rent out, decompile, disassemble or otherwise reverse engineer the apps, unless the law expressly permits it (for example to achieve interoperability under section 40e of the Austrian Copyright Act). Included open-source components are subject to their own licences.

All rights in Popcorn, the apps and the brand remain with JVMG GmbH or its licensors. Updates are part of the service; these terms apply to them as well.

Obligations and prohibited use

Use Popcorn only within the law and these terms. In particular, you may not

  • store or share unlawful content or infringe the rights of others (such as copyright, trademark or personality rights),
  • circumvent security measures, plan limits or the daily limit of AI input, attack Popcorn or overload it,
  • read or control Popcorn automatically, except through the apps and interfaces we provide for this,
  • use invitations, status links or emails from Popcorn for advertising or harassment,
  • misuse the referral programme, for example through self-referrals or accounts created only for that purpose,
  • manipulate points and leaderboards of the game of the week,
  • resell Popcorn or give third parties access to your account without our consent.

If you breach these obligations, we may, depending on the severity, block content, restrict individual features, suspend the account temporarily or terminate the contract (section 15). We take your legitimate interests into account and tell you why, where permitted.

Your content and shared projects

What you create in Popcorn belongs to you. You only grant us the rights we need to run Popcorn for you: to store your content, sync it between your devices and show it to the people you share it with. We do not analyse your content (details in the privacy policy).

If you share a project or an area, the invited members see and edit the content in it according to their role (edit or view only). As the owner, you decide on invitations, roles and removals. If you delete your account, shared projects and areas pass to the member who has been involved the longest; your tasks in them remain without your name.

Status links (Project Manager) show the state of a project to anyone who has the link – read-only, until they expire or you revoke them. Only pass them on if the content allows it.

On your team's leaderboard, other members see your display name, profile picture and points; challenge pages show first names and points to anyone who opens the link.

You are responsible for your content; we do not review it in advance. Please send notices of unlawful content to support@jvmg.at; we will review them promptly and act where necessary.

We back up the database daily. For important data, we still recommend creating an export regularly (section 15).

AI features

From the Check plan you can enter tasks in natural language (command bar or the “AI” button in the task input). An AI from our service provider Anthropic turns this into suggestions for tasks, projects or lists.

AI suggestions can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate, for example regarding date, time or project. So check them before confirming. Only what you confirm in the preview is created; you are responsible for confirmed content just as for content you typed yourself.

AI input is currently limited to 50 requests per day. We may adjust the limit to keep the service available for everyone.

If a suggestion does not fit or is inappropriate, report it via “Report a problem with this suggestion” in the preview or by email to support@jvmg.at.

AI input does not replace professional advice. What we send to Anthropic is described in the privacy policy.

Third parties and integrations

Connecting Google (Calendar, Google Tasks) and Microsoft (Outlook calendar) is optional and available from the Check plan. You need your own account with the provider, whose terms apply. You can disconnect at any time in the settings.

Popcorn syncs Google Tasks with the lists you choose in both directions: changes and deletions take effect on both sides. In calendars, Popcorn only writes to its own “Popcorn” calendar, if you have tasks with a time added as events.

We are not responsible for the availability of or changes to Google's and Microsoft's services. If a provider changes or discontinues its interface, the integration may be restricted or no longer available.

Payments are processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., Ireland); Stripe's terms also apply to payment processing. If you get an app through the Microsoft Store, winget or Google Play, their terms also apply to the download; JVMG GmbH remains your contractual partner for Popcorn.

Availability, updates and changes to the service

We aim for high availability but do not promise any particular availability (no service level agreement). Maintenance and disruptions at service providers or on the internet can temporarily limit the service. The apps keep working offline and sync changes later.

We keep developing Popcorn and may change, add or remove features where this is reasonable for you – for example because of technical developments, changed third-party interfaces, security or the legal situation. If we change a paid plan in a way that is more than slightly disadvantageous to you, we will inform you in advance. You can then end the contract free of charge within 30 days; we refund amounts already paid for the time after that on a pro-rata basis.

The desktop app keeps itself up to date when update checks are on. Install updates we provide – especially security updates; very old versions may no longer work with the service. We provide the updates needed to keep Popcorn in conformity with the contract.

If we shut Popcorn down entirely, we will announce this at least three months in advance. We refund paid periods after the end on a pro-rata basis; for the launch offer, see section 6.

Warranty and liability

The statutory warranty rights apply, for consumers in particular under the Austrian Consumer Warranty Act (VGG).

We are liable without limitation for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, for personal injury and under the Product Liability Act.

In the case of slight negligence, we are only liable if we breach an essential contractual obligation – an obligation whose fulfilment makes the contract possible in the first place and on which you may rely. Liability is then limited to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract. Towards businesses, liability for slight negligence is excluded, except for personal injury.

In the event of data loss, we are liable – except in cases of intent and gross negligence – for the effort that would have been needed to restore the data from a regular backup (such as an export).

Mandatory consumer rights, in particular under the Austrian Consumer Protection Act, remain unaffected.

Term, termination and account deletion

The contract of use runs for an indefinite period. You can end it at any time by deleting your account. Section 5 also applies to subscriptions and section 6 to the launch offer.

We may terminate the free plan with one month's notice by email. We may terminate a subscription at the end of a billing period with at least one month's notice.

For good cause, we may terminate without notice or suspend an account – for example in the event of serious violations of section 9, or violations repeated despite a warning, or unlawful use. If we terminate for other reasons, we refund amounts already paid for the time after the contract ends on a pro-rata basis.

Deleting your account: in the desktop app under Settings → Data and account, in the Android app under Settings → Account or at www.popcorntask.com/en/delete-account. After the request you have 7 days to change your mind and cancel the deletion; after that we delete the account, at the latest 8 days after the request. A running subscription is cancelled with the request with effect from the end of the paid period; there is no pro-rata refund. A launch offer ends with the deletion. We keep invoices for as long as the law requires.

Export: in the desktop app, under Settings → Data and account, you download all your data as a JSON file – on every plan. Exports as a product feature (such as CSV) are available from the Check plan. Export your data before deleting your account; after deletion we cannot restore it.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms for the future, for example because of new features or changes in the law or case law. The version in force is on this page; the date is at the top.

We will tell you about changes at least 30 days in advance by email or in the app. They only take effect for you if you agree to them. If you do not agree, the previous version continues to apply; we may then terminate the contract with notice under section 15.

Changes that are solely to your benefit or only affect wording without any change in substance apply from their publication.

Data protection

How we process personal data is described in our privacy policy. It is not part of these terms.

Governing law, jurisdiction and dispute resolution

Austrian law applies, excluding the conflict-of-laws rules of private international law and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of that country.

For businesses, the place of jurisdiction is the competent court in Vienna. For actions against consumers, the statutory places of jurisdiction apply, in particular the consumer's domicile or habitual residence.

The European Commission's former online dispute resolution platform (ODR platform) was discontinued on 20 July 2025, so we do not link to it. If there is a problem, please write to us at support@jvmg.at first. Consumers can also turn to a state-recognised consumer dispute resolution body, such as the Internet Ombudsstelle or Schlichtung für Verbrauchergeschäfte. We are not obliged to take part in such proceedings; we decide on a case-by-case basis whether to take part.

Final provisions

If any provision of these terms is invalid, the remaining provisions remain valid. Towards consumers, the invalid provision is replaced by the statutory rules.

These terms are available in German and English. In the event of discrepancies, the German version prevails unless the law provides otherwise.
